Yes. The biggest pitfall is not taking the time to “know
exactly what you need and why”, and then “failing to create
appropriate expectations.”
Terms like “Unified Communications”, “Collaboration”,
“Presence”, “Mobility”, etc. are buzzwords. They represent a
concept, but have no hard definition. How these concepts are
implemented in different systems will vary. There is little cross-
platform capability. So, selecting a vendor implies embracing
that vendor’s complete offering.
No amount of “effort in execution” can overcome “a flawed
plan.” In our Planning presentation we talk about the importance
of conceptualization and team building. We’re now expanding
that idea to include: “assessing the suitability of an offering to
perform its intended purpose.”
