Many IVR systems can support speech recognition and
touchtone signaling but speech recognition can be substantially
more costly. If you choose speech recognition, make sure that
your system can switch to “touchtone only” for those callers who
are unable to speak clearly.
IVRs can be connected by either digital or IP pathways. IP
pathways provide a better option where multiple IVR applications
are needed, because the IVR can be reached from anywhere on
the network. (For example: Supporting both a sales application
and a service application located in different building, on the
same system.)
Adding additional applications to an IVR system usually can
be done for the additional cost of software alone. Most IVR
systems can handle a substantial volume of traffic.
One advantage to premise based systems is that since you
own the software, you can put it on multiple computers to create
a redundant IVR environment.
